My dad had a heart attack yesterday. He was out cleaning the driveway from snow at his Michigan home and started to feel shortness of breath and pain in his chest. Eventually, my brother and two sisters called for an ambulance and they took him to the hospital.
Once they arrived the doctors discovered 100 percent blockage in his main left artery and 90 percent blockage in his right. The condition of his left artery is often coined “the widow maker.” Thankfully, he came to the hospital just in time and they were able to place some stints in his arteries to achieve better blood flow. It looks like he is going to be OK!
I am not positive all the reasons for heart attacks like my father suffered. It can be due to a number of factors including high cholesterol, family history, dietary issues, stress and more. The results are clear: lack of proper circulation to and from the heart. This prevents enough oxygen to get to heart causing the heart muscle to be damaged or even killed.
I wonder if there is a correlation to our lives? Is it possible the same kind of thing happens on an emotional/spiritual level? Are some of us preventing the flow of God’s spirit in our lives eventually causing a heart attack? And what if we ignore the symptoms? What if we keep people and God at arm’s length and fail to let anyone get too close? Will the blockage eventually cause permanent damage? Will it result in death?
I think it may be time for a checkup.
