March madness! Do you know what that name signifies? I will give you a hint. It has nothing to do with baseball Spring training although that is tons of fun. It has nothing to do with green grass and the winter thaw (especially in Phoenix!)
It has nothing to do with Spring breaks and trips to exotic locations. It has nothing to do with some sort of craziness akin to the whole Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde story.
It has everything to do with an orange ball that college guys try to put in a net on a 94 feet long and 50 feet wide court. This week begins the final league tournaments that will ultimately decide the 65 teams to play in the NCAA tournament.
It will lead to a wild three weeks of nonstop basketball as 64 teams move to the sweet sixteen to the elite eight to the final four to the champion! Whew! I get excited just thinking about all that blood, sweat and tears expelled through the game of B-ball!
If you are a fan, there is nothing better. If you aren’t, then you at least have to marvel at the passion you will see in family and friends. Or, you could just simply go somewhere and wait for it all to end!
The reason I love this tourney is that anything can happen. The team that may appear on paper to be the likely winner may go down in flames. The team that seems to have the odds stacked against it may rise up and win. A single play can determine the outcome. It is going to be a wild ride.
Anything can happen. I wish we faced our lives with that kind of attitude. If we could put aside the naysayers and simply go out each day and give it our all and see what happens.
If we could throw caution to the wind and give some new things a try. If we could actually trust God when it makes little sense. If we could connect with others in an authentic, risk taking way. That would make for one fun ride wouldn’t it? It would definitely make the highlight reel, maybe even the top ten plays of the day!
Anything can happen! A little “madness” can be a good thing. Give it a try!
