One of my favorite kid’s books is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very bad day. Poor Alexander has to endure Lima beans and kissing on TV and a whole bunch of bad things causing him to want to move to Australia.
Have you ever had one of “those” days? You feel like you start off with all the hope that a new day brings and “wham,” something hits you in the face. It takes all the energy out of your day and leaves you wondering why you got out of bed. Do you know what I am talking about?
But, then something comes along and redeems the day totally. It can be just a little glimmer of hope. It usually takes the focus off yourself and makes you focus on others.
That happened tonight for me during our Alpha group. We were praying for folks who needed some kind of healing and some amazing things happened in the room. God’s spirit was incredibly present as we supported each other in simple prayer.
I guess the key on those bad days is not to judge the day simply by the negative circumstances that come your way. They do not have to dictate what you feel about yourself, about others, or about life. Yep, sometimes you have to endure the bad stuff. At the end of the book for instance, Alexander realizes bad days can happen even in Australia.
And here’s the cool part. God loves to redeem things, even bad days!
