Today, I went to an airport… for breakfast. I know that seems strange but it is true. It is a small airport in town that has a great little restaurant. It is made for small single engine planes of various shapes and sizes.
I was due to meet one of my friends but unfortunately our wires must have been crossed. But, I decided to sit there and order breakfast. I ordered a couple of eggs over easy, bacon, hash browns and some sour dough toast. I sat and drank some tea and stared out at the hills that overlooked the runways.
I spent a few moments watching planes take off and land. I loved listening to the guys near me talking flying while I watched planes as they took flight. I wonder where they are going and what they are trying to do and who they were going to see.
Flying! Wouldn’t it be cool to be able to fly? I am not talking as a pilot although I wouldn’t mind getting my license someday. What I am talking about is actually flying, you know like a bird. To be able to jump out of a window and simply spread some wings and soar would be super cool.
Can you imagine the sensation of actually flying? To be able to see the world from above. To buzz around and drop… stuff on people’s heads. OK, that last part was uncalled for.
The word that I associate with flying is freedom. I love the feeling of being free to be me, to just be what God created me to be! I get the opportunity in those moments to simply embrace my true image, to share my heart with people, to live life fully. I am free! I guess I don’t need wings to be free… but I gotta admit, it would be awesome to have both.
“They that hope in the Lord shall renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31 NIV
