No lids

I realized today why I like to drink my Pepsi’s or Coke’s in drinking cups or glasses without a lid or a straw. I like the feel of the ice on my lips. I like to feel the drink on my tongue. I hate to have anything between me and that sweet flavor.

Now, why am I telling you this? Well, I think it relates to my normal philosophy in life. I hate lids. Not that I don’t occasionally place lids in my life but I really try to avoid them.

Lids are things that hold back a person’s potential. A lid keeps a church from going beyond its possibilities. A lid prevents God from working his magic. Lids are limits. Lids are restrictions. Lids hold us back.

God has big plans for us, his people. Ephesians 3:20 says that God “can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine…”

So, I was thinking about this whole thing this evening when I looked out the back of my balcony porch and saw nine hot air balloons. I got a great pix of one of them that I think illustrates what I am talking about.

Balloons like this are exactly what God is wanting to create in our lives and our churches. This is not a picture of a lid. It’s a picture of freedom, of possibilities, of imagination! That’s what I am talking about!
