Day 14: Celebrations

I feel really thankful for family and friends today! I received a ton of greetings on my birthday and it was pretty cool! I never realized how much people liked me.

I have never been a huge fan of birthdays because it is a reminder of the passing years. But, I realized today how important celebrations are for us. We need them desperately.

That is why we have holidays like Valentine’s Day. That’s why we take vacations. That’s why we like to go to parties. We love to celebrate. We even make up strange excuses to celebrate like “Daffodil Lover’s Month” and “Potato Lover’s Month.” Can you believe these are real American celebrations.

So, reading in Luke 8 today, Jesus causes some major celebrations. A dude who was possessed by thousands of bad spirits is restored to his right mind and starts wearing clothes again and leaves the friendly confines of the graveyard.

A woman who has been bleeding for years and has been cut off from society because of it is set free from her physical ailments and rejoins her family and friends. And, a little girl who is dead and gone is touched by Jesus and she gets up and starts chowing on a Big Mac.

Cause to celebrate! With all our different reasons for celebrating, they don’t compare to this “freedom” stories. That is real celebration!

The best part of the day for me was simply connecting with people who really do care about me! I celebrate those relationships and the people God has placed in my life. I am part of a community of love that really is a miracle!
