Child’s play

We have been having Bible School all week long. So, every night I come home and fall into bed. I have no energy left to do anything let alone write my blog. But tonight, I thought I would give it a shot.

Speaking of VBS, it has been a great week so far. I have been given the awesome opportunity to hang out with kids in the 3rd and 4th grade. I don’t get that chance very often and I can tell you honestly, it has been pretty cool!

The one thing I love about kids this age is their boundless energy. That energy can annoy adults of course since we aren’t used to it and are uncertain what to do with it all; how to direct it.

I am not trying to say that I have it all figured out of course. And, I got to admit they are exhausting. But, I also recall that I was one of them one of them once so I try to give them a break.

I wish I could have been more understanding of my own kids when they were that age and I struggled to deal with their antics. I think I would have made a few different choices and would have taken a few more moments before I reacted.

I read a quote recently that said that “men are judged more by their reactions than their actions.” That makes a lot of sense to me. The meaning is self-explanatory. I need to pay attention to how I react to situations, to people around me and yeah, especially to kids!

My reactions will dictate how I affect the life of a person, in particular kids. They are sensitive to our comments and our movements. We can build them up or destroy them with a look or a single word.

I am learning how much influence I can have in their lives by simply giving them a hug or dancing with them or listening to their stories or hanging out with them. They need caring adults in their lives. I can make a difference with such simple things.

I encourage you to hang out with some kids and help them discover themselves. Help them find their worth. It doesn’t take much from us really. Just a little time!
