I bought two pomegranates the other day. I know that doesn’t sound like a big deal to most of you. I mean its just fruit after all. But, I haven’t eaten one for maybe 30 years.
I am not sure why it has taken me so long to get another one of these fine fruits but it is what it is. In fact, it has been so long that I couldn’t even remember how to open it up and eat it. I remembered something about the seeds but that was about it.
Imagine my delight when I was able to tear into one of these fine delicacies and began to suck on some seeds. Wow! Even better than I remembered!
Pomegranates have become a nostalgic memory for me; kind of like the smell of mothballs and Old Spice aftershave. I know rally weird but mothballs always remind me of my grandparent’s house and my grandpa always word Old Spice.
I remember eating pomegranates when I was younger as a teenager and somehow it reminds me of all the good stuff that happened with my family when I was growing up. It creates some warm and fuzzy feelings. I get the same feelings when I think about banana moonpies. Yummy!
I guess we all have those little things that take us back. It could be a certain taste, a certain smell, a certain sight that makes us smile. It takes us back. They evoke memories!
We all need those little things that take us to a happier place, that make us smile. Don’t neglect these moments in time. Embrace them! And while you at it, buy a pomegranate and enjoy the sweetness!
