Last night it snowed in Phoenix, Arizona… quite a feat when it was around 55 degrees outside. OK, so it wasn’t exactly natural but it was pretty cool.
We had a fun-filled night at our church and our kid’s director arranged for the ice company to come in and “make snow.” It was so fun watching kids do something they rarely get to do, at least here in the dessert.
They threw snow balls at each other, they sledded down small hills, made snow angels, and generally just played. Kids at play is amazing to watch. Even the adults acted like “big kids’ and jumped into the snow.
I admit I had my share of snow down my back from multiple sources. But, it was worth it seeing these kids laugh, whether they were 8 or 48.
We also had horse drawn carriage rides, pictures with Santa Claus, a great campfire, roasted marshmallows, decorated cookies, carol singing and hot chocolate. Very simple stuff really but tons of people showed up.
I guess it goes to show you that the simple things are really very attractive to us. We don’t have to spend tons of money to have a good time. In fact, lots of us are just looking for a place to hang out and enjoy simple fun.
Don’t forget this Christmas to just look for the simple stuff. You won’t be sorry!
