We know it can be intimidating to go to a new church for the first time – or to go to church for the first time in general! We would love to have you join us, and want you to feel comfortable from your first step onto our campus! Here are some things you can expect at North Hills:
Where do I go? – Great first question! The first building you’ll see as you drive onto our campus is the biggest one and the walls are mostly windows. That’s the main auditorium, where we do our Sunday service (@10:30). There should be people around, catching up with each other and heading inside. Just follow them in through those glass doors and right into the auditorium! We don’t have assigned seats or sections or anything like that – so sit where you’re comfortable! And if you have trouble finding where to go or picking a seat, just ask a greeter/usher standing at one of the entrances and they’d be happy to help you!
Casual attire – Our hope is that when you come to church, you don’t feel like you have to put on a show or feel uncomfortable searching your closet for your “best dress.” We want you to feel authentic and comfortable to be the real you when you’re with us. Of course, that means if you like to dress up and pull that nice dress out every once in awhile, feel free to be “you” in that way, too!
Friendly faces – Expect someone to greet you with a smile, a handshake, and a warm “hello”! If you have questions or concerns, there are ushers and greeters at the doors to help guide you and make you feel at home.
Modern Music – Our service is set up to be current, relevant, and contemporary… so be prepared for a full drum set, electric guitars, and upbeat songs! Of course we love to use acoustic instruments, pianos, and stringed instruments to glorify God, too, so don’t be afraid that our worship will be like a deafening rock concert. The music is intentionally chosen and arranged to give a great blend and balance to the different sides of worship music; God wants to hear it all!
Comfortable Seats – No wooden pews in this auditorium! Once again, we want you to feel comfortable and at home here at North Hills, and even our chairs are designed with that in mind!
The Bible – If you have a Bible, great! We use it a lot (this is church after all). If you don’t have one, that’s totally okay, too! We’d be happy to help you pick one out. You won’t get lost in the service if you don’t have one – we make an effort to share what we’re reading up on our screen so everyone can see it, but we also really encourage you to bring your Bible if you do have one!
Prayer – Praying is a really important way to thank God for what He’s done for us and given us, to ask Him for help with things in life, and just to talk with Him in general. The people up front do the praying during our service, so don’t be nervous that you’ll get “called on” to deliver a poetic letter to God in front of everyone. Just know that we do pray in our service, and we believe it’s a really great thing! If you want some direction on prayer, check it out under “Engage With God”.
Cultural Relevancy – Sometimes we find funny or meaningful movie clips that relate to what we’re talking about together, and we show them during service. Or sometimes we showcase a “secular” song because it makes a good point in what we’re learning. Or we use pictures, quotes, props on the stage… We like to use any creative media we can, since it’s such a big part of our culture!
